About! The purpose of this organization is to acclimate transfer students and freshmen to the dynamic, friendly, but complex environment at Providence. Being transfer students ourselves, we feel it is important to have a student led initiative to help new Panthers feel at home in their new high school. In doing so, we hope that transfers and freshmen will feel comfortable in our high school, leading to more participation and better all around performances.

Established 2018Providence High School is a highly competitive institution in the Charlotte area, a standard that not all high schools enforce. Students that transfer into Providence are looking for a more challenging experience that will push them into becoming the most successful and productive version of themselves. However, speaking from experience, the stark contrast in standards between Providence and the average high school is often overwhelming to a student that is also attempting to blend into the student body and become accustomed to the unfamiliar Charlotte area. We made this club to help with that challenge and have students not struggle, but succeed.
|
Our GoalA classroom functions most productively, efficiently, and effectively when all students participate and share their ideas. Students that are new to schools often feel inhibited as they are unfamiliar with their new classmates and their peer’s reactions to their ideas and actions. A student that does not feel comfortable in their classroom will not participate; therefore, losing the valuable opinions of that student. Our club will help students feel confident and relaxed in their classrooms. In this way, all students will benefit from the cooperation of the new student, leading to more innovation and scores that better reflect the ability of the transfer. In addition to better scores and participation, we hope to make the new students as comfortable as possible in their new home.

Our Team
Sylvia Mihailescu
Co-President, Founder WI -> NC "I am from a small town called De Pere, Wisconsin, and I moved to Charlotte early August of 2017. Coming from a small town in the Midwest, I was not accustomed to the challenges associated with Metropolitan life, most notably traffic. Upon arriving, I had the opportunity to join the tennis team where I was able to make some friends and develop connections. This proved to be advantageous when school started. As I had moved from a less competitive school, the requirements and standards at Providence were much higher; and therefore, much more difficult. I would like to bring the same support system that I received through the tennis team and make it available to students that are not involved in many extracurriculars through this club."

Angela Menon
Adviser, Guidance Counselor NY -> FL -> WA -> NC "Hi! I am happy to introduce myself as one of the school counselors here at Providence High School as well as a co-advisory for the NOVA Panthers Club! A little about myself... I grew up in Western New York and attended both high school and college close to home. I received my Bachelors Degree in Science in both Psychology and Sociology. I then moved to Florida to attend Graduate School at the University of Central Florida. I have several years of experience working in a variety of roles in the mental health/behavioral health sector prior to working as a school counselor.
My first school counselor job was in Seattle, Washington working at an IB High School. I was there for 3 years before coming to Providence High School. I absolutely love working in education and am thrilled to be working with the students, teachers, administrators, and parents whom I so highly regard. My spare time is spent is usually spent running or hiking. I also spend a lot of time with my immediate family. I also love coffee, so you may find me sitting at a local coffee shop with a good read or working on my laptop :). I am excited to start this school year with the NOVA Panthers and hope that everyone has a great school year!" |

Having transferred between schools and even moving across the nation, I know how overwhelming life can get, especially for a teenager. We're Here for You 24/7
To put this bluntly, being the new kid sucks. This club will create a basis for transfers or anyone in fact, to spring off of or to provide a safety. Feel free to contact any of the officers or advisers as needed.
